Our goal is to raise awareness to the rising number of students experiencing homelessness and poverty in San Diego County, and the challenges they are facing, that are significantly impacting their education and well-being.
But more importantly, CareCrewSD’s mission is to bridge the gap between awareness and action by creating a space designed to mobilize other teenagers.
This website showcases Care House’s efforts while making it easy for other high schoolers to get involved, volunteer, donate, and advocate.

In recent school years, the number of students experiencing homelessness and poverty in San Diego County has been steadily increasing.
In fact, San Diego has one of the largest homeless populations in the nation.

Children facing homelessness or housing insecurity face challenges that significantly impact their education and well-being.
Without stable housing, families also struggle with basic needs like food, transportation, and access to health care, all of which affecting children’s ability to thrive in school.

Finally, poverty deeply shape how they see themselves and affect their self-confidence and sense of self-worth.
Meet The Founder
Jake Katz
Hi!
My name is Jake.
I am a student at Torrey Pines High School.
I decided to create this website after volunteering at various homeless shelters in San Diego, and later getting involved with Care House, a non-profit organization serving children K-6 experiencing homelessness and poverty in our county.
These opportunities made me realize how many students my own age are quietly facing food and housing instability, and how this is affecting their self-confidence and wellbeing.
I decided to turn concern into initiative, by creating a space designed to mobilize other teenagers. The website showcases Care House’s efforts —providing meals, books, emergency assistance and more — while making it easy for other high schoolers to get involved. By rallying my peers to volunteer, donate, and advocate, it is my hope to help bridge the gap between awareness and action.
